I’ve spent the last couple of days figuring out what kind of look I’d like the blog to have. I know I want it to be clean and simple, with only 2-3 colours and minimal (if any) graphics.
It’s funny how, back when I started, website “design” was flashing banners, bold colours and garish fonts. Basically seeing how far you could push the limits of dial-up internet lol.
Now it’s about simplicity. How to do more with less. Most people use a mobile device, so although we have super fast broadband and can use as many photos and videos as we like, the focus is on content being visible on much smaller screens.
I get restless with site design, but for now I’ve gone very plain with tan and blue accents that should be easy on the eyes. You can view the blog in dark mode too – not sure I’m happy with the colours there yet. I’ve spent most of the time trying to find the right font – usually I choose something sans-based but, as this blog is heavy on the writing, I’ve gone for apt serif instead.
I’ve gone with self-hosted WordPress as it’s been my platform of choice elsewhere for over a decade and I’m very comfortable with customising it. I also prefer to have full control over my content.
Comments very welcome!
