My recent posts have been a bit dire haven’t they? This blog is supposed to be my happy place. Oops.
Some good things have happened this week and I’ll post about them on the Now page on Sunday. In the meantime, I’m happy as always on a Friday evening. Two days of doing sod all and not feeling guilty about it coming right up!
Debated having dinner delivered from the local restaurant this evening, but money is a bit tight and bills are looming on the horizon. Instead, husband will be going into town tomorrow and will bring back McDonalds – the boys will be very pleased indeed. Of course, McDonalds isn’t exactly a budget treat any more, it costs nearly £30 for the four of us and we don’t even bother with drinks. When I was a teenager, I used to get a voucher for a cheeseburger for £1 on the back of my bus ticket. That was something I really looked forward to as we were VERY poor and only ever went to McDonalds on my birthday.
We’ve got a lovely little cafe less than 5 minutes drive away, and another just around the corner from that (which recently won a national award!), so we have some nice options for eating out during the day. The aforementioned restaurant is on the outskirts of our village and serves the usual pub fare, plus the proprietor’s own range of Lithuanian food. I’ve tried it a couple of times, but I don’t think it’s for me.
Only one other place delivers food here as we’re so rural. Thankfully it’s a cracking good Indian and we do love a curry!
My absolutely fave place to eat is an American western themed restaurant about 15 miles away bear my eldest’s school. We sometimes treat ourselves to breakfast after dropping the boy off, but I really love going for lunch or dinner when we can afford it. Here’s my favourite dish: goats cheese & beetroot flatbread.

We had an Iceland delivery this afternoon (only ordered at 10am!) so I ended up having some dirty fries with mini hash brown hot dogs for dinner. No single supermarket seems to do everything we need, so that’s why husband is going into town tomorrow – he’ll pickup some bits from Lidl before grabbing lunch.
Somehow this post ended up being about food. I have absolutely no idea why, but there you go.
