Bored Musings

So after a busy start to the week, I find myself with a couple of lazy days.

Not having anything to do often leads my mind to start wandering, and being a worrier that usually means negative thoughts. Are we going to be able to pay the bills next week? Will eldest be able to overcome his anxiety and go to sixth form? I need to make an effort to think more positively.

We have had some excellent news today – husband’s car passed the MOT with just a wiper replacement needed. It had some engine troubles when we first got it 2 years ago, and the poor suspension has fallen victim to so many potholes I’m frankly stunned not so much as a spring has gone. It gets a good workout too, doing about 15k miles a year.

I’m up for election for the parent governor position at youngest’s school. There’s 6 of us, so I’m probably not going to get it. I’m really torn about it too. I actually would like the job, but being an hour away from the school will make it a pain to attend meetings. I guess it’s now in the hands of fate.

Talking of youngest, he had a tricky start this week. He couldn’t sleep on Saturday night until really late and was quite emotional as a result. This impacted the following couple of days, where he was then afraid to try and get to sleep and also very grumpy because he was tired. On Monday, he told the school he was bored and lonely at home and became emotional there too. It was apparently all related to the fact he was missing his friends from primary school. So it’s been a lesson that although he seems to have settled at high school, there’s still a lot of residual feelings for what he’s left behind.

Eldest went to his sixth form interview Tuesday evening. Unfortunately his selective mutism kicked in when we arrived and he could only muster a few words towards the end, very quietly. Thankfully I was allowed to accompany him and speak for him and the staff were really lovely and understanding. He really does want to go there, and afterwards he said he felt he handled it better than he thought he would. I’m really glad he’s feeling positive about it. Today he was sent the formal offer of a place, so he’s all set!

Yesterday I had a PTA meeting to discuss the Year 11 Prom next June. We’ve got a well-organised team who’ve done it twice before and already got the venue and catering booked. It was nice to catch up with some fellow parents I’ve gotten to know over the last 4 years and I’ll miss them when I leave in a few months.

This weekend I’ll be working and then we’ll (hopefully) have some money. I got confirmation today that no changes are being made to our universal credit after the review last week, which is a huge relief. Let the Christmas shopping begin!
