X-Factor looking good this year

I’ve just spent a couple of hours parked in front of the telly watching the first live show of this year’s X-Factor. For those outside the UK, this is a bit like American Idol (it even has Simon Cowell as one of the judges), but there are four categories instead of just the one – Boys, Girls, Groups and Over-25s. Each judge mentors one category, so there is also competition between them and the bickering can be hilarious at times.

I’m a sucker for this kind of entertainment, particularly the auditions when you see all the weirdos. The live rounds this year look to be worth watching though, there’s some really good contestants in each category. My current fave (thought I am fickle and this is subject to change) is the boy-band Futureproof. The interesting thing about these guys is that each member initially auditioned solo and was rejected, but Louis Walsh decided to try an experiment and get the rejects to form groups. This one turned out so good that they have made it to the live shows.

I do hope the public vote for them. No group has won the X-Factor before and it would make a nice change. Last year, I was rooting for Eton Road and was so disappointed they didn’t make it to the final. Good luck fellas!
